Glamping in Argentina: luxury vacations in the wilderness

Glamping in Argentina

Waking up in the middle of the wilderness, on an immense plain, in the shadow of a looming mountain or in the woods, used to be a pleasure limited to those willing to spend the night in a tent or who were lucky enough to find a remote cabin or ranch to stay at. Today, however, glamping in Argentina, a trend that has grown increasingly popular since the beginning of the pandemic, offers the best of both worlds.

Glamping is a form of accommodation that combines luxury facilities (transparent roofs through which to view the starry sky, stunning views, comfortable extra-large beds, private decks and high-end services) with the immersion in the natural world offered by traditional camping.

It is a sustainable option as it has a low environmental impact while also ensuring social distancing and the opportunity to get away from the rat race.

Glamping in Argentina, 6 options that offer sophistication in the wilderness

Patagonia Eco Domes in El Chaltén (Santa Cruz)

Half an hour from El Chaltén, on the road to Laguna de los Tres and in front one of the most famous peaks in Patagonia, the Fitz Roy, one finds Patagonia Eco Domes, a glamping site that is only open during the summer months. Each dome is supplied by its own solar panels and has a wood stove, private bathroom and facilities the envy of many a hotel. Another attraction is that the complex has its own restaurant where breakfast is included while full board is optional.

Geo Glamping Dos Aguas in Capilla del Monte (Córdoba)

One of the first glamping sites in the country, Geo Glamping Dos Aguas opened in 2011 on an 8-hectare lot in Capilla del Monte, at the foot of the Uritorco hill. The site has four private domes with accommodation for two and three people and shared living room, kitchen, barbecue and meditation areas. Breakfast is included and bicycles are available for excursions around the area where one can take mountain paths to the Dolores River.  The complex also has cabins and a restaurant that serves seasonal local produce. It is open all year round.

Eco Domos Lago Verde in Esquel (Chubut)

Close to Lago Verde in the heart of Parque Nacional Los Alerces, Eco Domos Lago Verde is part of the larger Campo Verde Camp Complex. The domes are set deep in the woods, ensuring a tranquil atmosphere and special connection to nature. They are essentially private rooms while services are shared. The site offers water-based activities such as kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and sailing as well as horse rides and treks through the ancient forests to the Torrecillas glacier.

Alpasión in the Uco Valley (Mendoza)

And what about glamping in an Argentine vineyard? Yes, you can do that too. On their Uco Valley estate, the Alpasión winery offers three high end tents with king size beds, a private bathroom and a deck with hydromassage and a view of the Andes. The site offers the opportunity to enjoy a private stay just a few feet away from the lodge. Guests in the domes can enjoy all the winery’s facilities, which include guided tours, tastings and common areas (which include a library with a fireplace and an infinity pool) and the restaurant. It’s a distinctive option for a relaxing and enjoyable visit to Mendoza.

Las Ramblas in Villa La Angostura (Neuquén)

Las Ramblas is located in Manzano Bay, one of the most attractive locations in Villa La Angostura, on the shores of the Nahuel Huapi lake with a view of the Andes. It offers a “Inspired Glamping” experience with a lengthy range of options: geodesic domes, a “transparent bubble” (a polycarbonate structure with a view of the Patagonian sky), a glass pyramid and an extra-large panoramic dome. They are all furnished with a king size bed, exterior deck and everything one needs for a comfortable, distinctive stay in the Siete Lagos district. The site is open between November and Easter.
