The Gaucho Annual Winemaker Awards are organised by the Gaucho chain of restaurants in asso-ciation with Wines of Argentina, to celebrate the most distinguished of the country´s wines in the past year.
The interesting thing about this awards ceremony is the methodology of nominations. Phil Crozier, “Director of Wines” of Gaucho Group, asks a select group of winery owners, winemakers and wine journalists, to give their votes in different categories, so that the final result expresses the feelings of a truly expert panel.
The criterion in the category best non-Argentine winemaker of the year, seeks to recognise the winemaker whose contribution to the wine industry in Argentina is outstanding; the long history of work that Paul Hobbs has done in our country has earned him this recognition.
Paul Hobbs, first came to Argentina over 20 years ago and has since become an advocate for its potential and a key figure in the development of Argentina´s wine industry. 15 years ago, from Viña Cobos, together with his Argentine partners Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud, he produced wines that are counted among the most prestigious in the country. His philosophy is based on a continuous search for quality and excellence, doing a thorough job in the vineyard which allows exceptional expression in each terroir.
